AIMS India Oct 2013 Meeting Minutes

Attendees:  Balakumar Ponnuswamy, Iyappan Raman, Siva Venkatachalam, Vidya Vijayanand  
DC Chapter Meeting: Oct 13, 2013
ONGOING PROJECTS:
·         SDC NAMCO- Report for Sep received- total of 418 children attended the 10 centers in the month of Sep. The teachers have met all the parents individually. Some of the Village panchayat leaders also visited the centers and appreciated the teachers’ efforts.
·         ASTA 1 & ASTA 2 -KK/ CARE – Sep reports received. Teacher support in 27 schools (with 28 teachers) going on per schedule. 17 working days in Sep. About 2600 students benefit from this project.
·         SDC KK / CARE – Sep report received. This program benefits about 450 children in 10 villages. 16 teachers are engaged in this project. Special coaching was given for the Quarterly exams.
·         KOODU –Report for Sep received. 16 students are participating in the Computer Classes and 16 in the Tailoring Class. The children are making good progress. The course ends next month.
·         ASTA VIDIYEL– Kodangipatti – 1 Para teacher provided to supplement the high school teacher. Sep report not received.
·         SDC Manapakkam / NAMCO – Reports for Sep received. 46 students attended the classes in Sep. The children celebrated Onam making floral kolams and sharing sweets.
·         ASTA / NAMCO- Agarapettai- July, Aug & Sep reports received. 3 para-teachers supplement the existing high school- teachers - benefits 260 students.
·         RWDT – Report for Sep not recd.
·         CENDECT School for MR Children - Report for Sep received. New HM identified. 2 Special Ed teachers and helpers already employed are engaged in this project. 15 children have been enrolled and 10 more have been identified for enrolment.
·         READ – Report for Sep received. To go over in detail and discuss in Project Committee meeting.
·         Kuniamuthur School Building – NAMCO has released about Rs 22000 to the Contractor for building demolition and repairs.
·         Chinnaperoli Village School Building repair – School has requested us to contact the Panchayat reg the repairs, because the Panchayat approval is required. Bala to follow up with the Panchayat leader.
·         Nilakottai Sourashtra Middle School- Request for Girls toilets benefitting 256 girl students ( Rs  3 lakhs ) and 40 desks and benches for all 700 students (Rs.1.8 lakhs). This was discussed and Ravi Rajaram provided all the details the members requested. Was decided to fund 6 toilets and 6 urinals. Waiting for a comparative quote from Iyappan.
NEW PROPOSALS:
·         Namagiripet High School: Proposal was submitted by Venkat. School requires Compound Wall, Drums Set & Sports Cycle, RO Water system, Flooring, Entrance Arch, 3 Steel cupboards – total estimate Rs. 300,000. This was discussed and was decided to consider all except the Entrance Arch and the Drums Set & Sports Cycle. Venkat to discuss this with the school and get a quote. Waiting for a revised quote.

  • About 60 runners successfully participated in the Baltimore Running Festival on behalf of AIMS. More AIMS runners are participating in the MCM on Oct 27.

ONGOING PROJECTS:
·         SDC NAMCO- 11 Report for Aug received-  total of 418 children attended the 10 centers in the month of Aug.
·         ASTA 1 & 2 -KK/ CARE – Aug reports received. Teacher support in 18 schools going on per schedule
·         SDC KK / CARE – Aug report received. This program benefits about 450 children in 10 villages. 16 teachers are engaged in this project.

NEW PROPOSALS:
·         Nilakottai Sourashtra Middle Schoo l- Request for Girls toilets benefitting 256 girl students ( Rs  3 lakhs ) and 40 desks and benches for all 700 students (Rs.1.8 lakhs). This was discussed and Ravi Rajaram provided all the details the members requested. To vote online on the project. Was decided to fund 6 toilets and 6 urinals.
·         Chinnaperoli Village School Building repair: There are 40 Students, 2 teachers and 1 HM in the school. They are requesting to demolish a dilapidated building and make it flat, so kids will use that as playground. The toilet building is bad - they are requesting a new one.
The kitchen and store also worst shape, it may down any time. They are requesting a new one. Total Projected cost is Rs 255,000. This was discussed and the members felt that the costs are on the higher side. We have to ask them for comparative quotes from other builders.
·         Kuniamuthur School Building: Requirements are as follows:
1. Demolish the building so the kids will use that area for play ground.
2. Sintex water tank and pipes to kitchen and drinking water area
3. Fence in small place
Total budget is: Rs. 65,274 - Approved unanimously by all members present. To be executed thro NAMCO

AIMS India Aug Meeting Minutes

Minutes of DC Chapter Meeting held on Aug 18, 2013
Attendees: Sadasivam Palanisamy, Aliyar Sahib, Balakumar Ponnuswamy, Iyappan Raman, Ravi Rajaram, Karunya Iyappan, Siva Venkatachalam, Samy Palanisamy, Sumathi Siva, Vidya Vijayanand 

ONGOING PROJECTS:

  • ASTA / NAMCO-  Agarapettai- 3 teachers – Rs 2000 each- 10 months - Rs 60,000 – approved in July, Funds for Q1 to be sent immediately.
  • ASTA & KK – Funds for Q1 to be sent to CARE immediately. July reports received.
  • KOODU – Funds for Q1 to be sent immediately (Rs 13000 per month). Members to find computer donations for KOODU. Report for July received.
  • SDC Manapakkam / NAMCO – Rs 12K for study material and Rs 30000 (10 months’ teacher salary) approved. Q1 funds to be sent immediately.
  • SDC NAMCO-  10 Student Development Centers for a period of 11 months was approved in June - Funds for Q1 sent in July. Report for July received-  total of 414 children attend the 10 centers.
  • Sevai Illam- Thanjavur- Desks and benches delivered and dedicated to students the first week of August. Received pictures of the function.

NEW PROPOSALS:

  • CENDECT: Rs. 404,000 was approved for CENDECT. Will be evaluated after 6 months (Teaching and educational material, Staff for 1 year, School Admin Exps)
  • ASTA Kodangipatti – Request for continuing support for1 teacher for Kondangipatti Govt higher sec school – Beneficiaries – 70 students - Rs 24000/ year for 1 year – Approved unanimously by all present.
  • Nilakottai Sourashtra Middle School- Request for Girls toilets benefiting 256 girl students ( Rs  3 lakhs ) and 40 desks and benches for all 700 students (Rs.1.8 lakhs) - Was discussed. Number of toilets and cost to be restructured.

Oothupatti Panchayat Union School

Students from the Oothupatti Panchayat Union School, in Dindugal district was in a discomfort without a proper desk in the classrooms. AIMS - India helped the needed students with desks and benches for the betterment of their education.

Our sincere Thanks to Mr.Kumaresan who brought this to our attention and Mr.Jeeva who worked towards the execution of this project.

Total cost of this project is Rs 45,000 INR

We thank all of our donors and volunteers from the bottom of our heart for your contribution towards this project.

Marathon training at Columbia Island Marina.

Last week marathon training took place at Columbia Island Marina and many of our runners participated in the training.

The scheduled distance of this training was

  • 13 miles of Full marathon
  • 5 miles of Half Marathon and 10K
  • 4 miles of 5K

AIMS India : DC Chapter Meeting minutes - June 9th 2013

Attendees:  Aliyar Sahib, Balakumar Ponnusamy,  Dinesh Ganesan,  Iyappan Kothadaraman (On-Call), Jey Venugopalan, Priya Sambasivam, Sada Palanisamy, Selvakumar Jayaraj,  Siva Venkatachalam.

 Ongoing Projects Updates:

Ø  VIDIYAL - Kanyakumari AIMS School Teaching Assistance Project (ASTA 1&2) & AIMS Student Development Centers (ASDC)

o    Received Acknowledgement Receipt of ASTA-1 and 2
o    Reviewed the project extension request for the next fiscal year funding requirement for ASTA1 & ASTA2.

o    Required to review updated funding request for these two projects & continuous support for all these centers.

o    All the board members acknowledged the funding request.


Ø  Manappakkam Student Development Centers
o    Received student’s evaluation Report for May 2013 and Received Acknowledgement Receipt of SDC.

o    Next Six Months extension of funding is in “Pending Status”


Ø  KOODU - Computer and Tailoring Training & Projector for Educational Videos Project

o     Received report for May 2013

Ø  RWDT - Rural Women’s Development Trust Projects

o    99% work is done, Coordinator should submit the project closing report in July-2013

o    99% of work is done, Coordinator should submit the project closing report in July-2013
